25 Apr 1891 - Ogdensburg Journal (Ogdensburg, New York)
Horace Havens died at his residence at “Lost Village” at the foot of Black Lake, yesterday morning, at the age of 91 years. He was probably the oldest resident of St. Lawrence county, having come to this town at the beginning of the century. He saw the country develop from a wilderness into fertile dairy farms, and Ogdensburg grow from its inception to a thriving city. He accumulated considerable property, the amount of which is only a matter of conjecture. He was one of the best known as well as the oldest resident of the town. He lived at “Lost Village” nearly his whole life and reared a good sized family. One of his sons was for many years the proprietor of a hotel at the Eel Weir. His father met his death from drowning in the Oswegatchie near the site of the present iron bridge, and it was thought he was thrown from the structure that then spanned the river there and was murdered.
