The Wholesale Murderess of the Matteawan Hospital Wants the Pension of the Husband She Murdered
Lizzie Halliday, who is confined in the Matteawan State Hospital may be crazy on some things, but she is not crazy on money matters. When it comes to talking over money matters she has her wits about her, and now has the audacity to ask for the pension money of the husband she murdered.
She now wants to collect from the government $12 a month pension which her husband was drawing. Here is her letter to a Middletown lawyer named Wolff:
My friend, Mr. Wolfe, Your Honor: Please apply for my husband’s pension for me, whom you knew, as he gave you his business to do. I therefore prefer you to any one else, as you understand the case, and as you are a capital good hand to hurry up business. Please do not delay about this of mine. I know you will accomplish all you undertake to help me. I need money to help me along, as my health is poor, and I am sick most of the time. You knew he drawed $36 every three months and now it is pretty well along in eight years since there was any received. Please write to me soon and tell me what you will do for me. Goodbye, yours respectfully, from.
Mrs. Paul Halliday - Matteawan State Hospital, Fishkill Landing.
