From Twisted Roots

LIZZIE HALLIDAY AGAIN - The Matteawan Hospital’s Star Patient as Seen at a Hospital Entertainment.

Yesterdays’ Herald contained an illustrated article, “Madhouse Thespians” descriptive of a dramatic entertainment given, last week, at the Matteawan State Hospital. One of the illustrations shows Lizzie Halliday “enjoying” the entertainment, and her features are easily recognizable.

It is said of Lizzie that she occupied a chair well toward the front. Close by her was her inevitable attendant. Lizzie “happened to be in a good frame of mind on this particular occasion, for which every one was thankful,” but as the play progressed she became more and more excited. She clasped and unclasped her hands, rolled her eyes and began to murmur to herself. “Come, Lizzie” said the attendant. The demented woman rose from her seat without a word and was led away to her room.
