Like his slightly older brother Walter, all of his early memories would have been the repeatedly loss of his family members including his mother and several sisters. This culminated in the 1912 thriple homocide and suicide by his older brother William. Two years later he also lost his eldest brother Edward, and his last remaining sibling, Walter, died in 1932. George was the only member of the family to live a full life. By 1922 he had moved to Nebraska where he found work as a cook at a hotel and stayed at least through to 1930. He married and had a son, Eddie, in 1922. In 1935 the family was living in Idaho Springs, Colorado but by 1940 they were in Los Angeles, and finally, by 1958, they had moved further south to Chula Vista, California near San Diego. George died in 1970 at the age of 71. == Documentation == === Census Records === * [[1900 Census - ED75 - Page 11B|1900]] : Black Creek, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA * [[1905 Census - Center, Outagamie - Page 1|1905]] : Center, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA * [[1910 Census - ED130 - Page 12A|1910]] : Center, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA * [[1930 Census - ED 55-25 - Page 13B|1930]] : Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, USA * [[1940 Census - ED 60-381 - Page 63B|1940]] : Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA * [[1950 Census - ED 66-2371 - Sheet 80|1950]] : Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA === Military Records === * [[WW1 Draft Card, Walter Mailahn|WW1 Draft Card]]: Walter Mailahn, 1918 (listed as next of kin) * [[WW2 Draft Card, George Lawrence Mailahn|WW2 Draft Card]]: George Lawrence Mailahn, 1942 === Newspapers === * [[3 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Kills Father, Sister, Brother and Himself * [[5 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Father Has Presentiment * [[8 Feb 1912 - Appleton Weekly Post (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Fiend Kills Father, Sister, Brother and Ends Own Life * [[14 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Brother Tells of the Tragedy * [[17 Jul 1957 - Chula Vista Star-News (Chula Vista, California)]] - hubcaps stolen * [[21 Jun 1970 - Chula Vista Star-News (Chula Vista, California)]] - George Mailahn obituary
