{{Infobox bio | name = Edward Herman Mailahn | aka1 = Eddie | image = Edward Mailahn.png | birth_date = Sep 1887 | birth_place = Wisconsin, USA | death_date = 2 Oct 1914 | cause = tuberculosis | father = [[Louis Mailahn]] | mother = [[Augusta Schmidt Mailahn]] | death_place = Little Chute, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA | nationality = American | occupation = Farmer }} [[Case File: Mailahn Family]] ==Episodes== * [[Ep. 1 - The Mailahn Family Massacre]] ==Bio== Edward Mailahn was the fifth child, and eldest son, of the Mailahn family. He was a strong young man, age 25, in 1912 when his brother killed three members of the family and committed suicide. Edward had just left the farm two pick up two of their younger brothers from school when it happened, presumably picking the time while Edward was away as he, and the two younger teenage brothers, would have been to strong to overtake. Afterward Edward was determined to sell the farm, and if you couldn't sell it, that he would tare down the house and barn and build a new one. He knew he couldn't continue to live there. However, it wasn't long before he also fell ill. A portion of both of his lungs were removed in late 1913 and he was admitted to the recently built Riverview Sanitarium where he died in 1914. His two brothers, still being minors, he left his estate to his cousin Cecilia Mailahn. ==Documentation== === Cemetery Records === * [[Black Creek Cemetery Burials]] === Census Records === * [[1900 Census - ED75 - Page 11B|1900]] - Black Creek, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA * [[1905 Census - Center, Outagamie - Page 1|1905]] - Center, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA ===Newspapers === * [[3 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Kills Father, Sister, Brother and Himself * [[5 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Father Has Presentiment * [[8 Feb 1912 - Appleton Weekly Post (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Fiend Kills Father, Sister, Brother and Ends Own Life * [[14 Feb 1912 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Brother Tells of the Tragedy * [[2 Sep 1913 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Driven West By the White Plague * [[5 Sep 1913 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Auction * [[28 Nov 1913 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Part of Both Lungs Are Removed * [[16 Oct 1915 - The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin)]] - Probate === Probate Records === * [[Probate of Edward Mailahn]]: Outagamie County, Wisconsin (1914/15) === Vital Records === * [[Marriage Certificate of Bertha Mailahn & Jesse Welch]] (1904)
