Volume 16, No 94
Page 5, Column 5
MRS. WERNER IN COLLAPSE, MOTHER SAYS
Frank Piconi, accused of the murder of Henry Werner, continued his testimony in support of his plea of an alibi today in Judge Ronald's court, where he was on the stand throughout the morning. Through an interpreter, he told in detail his wanderings before and after the crime, attempting to show he could not have been near the Werner ranch the morning the murder was committed. He declared that he had no reason for killing Werner and that he left Issaquah for Cle Elum because he wanted to get a better job. Deputy Prosecutor Wright at noon took up the cross-examination. By the introduction of letters written by Piconi, he hopes to break down the alibi testimony. [[Mary Magdalena Goebel|Mrs. Magdalina Werner]], who was a witness, has collapsed under the nervous strain of the trial, according to her mother, Mrs. Sophie Hall, and is suffering in a private sanitarium.
